At Chiropractic Company, we want to help you make your first visit with us as pleasant and painless as possible by letting you know what to expect.
Medical History
The first thing your chiropractor will do is review your medical history. This will consist of detailed questions about your injury or condition, such as where it occurs, what makes your condition better or worse, and how you would describe the pain. It will also be important to go over past medical history, letting our team know if you've had this condition before or other health conditions, such as high blood pressure or diabetes, as they will affect how quickly you will heal from injury. We will also discuss your family and social history.
Examination
Your doctor will perform a throrough examination on your area of injury. This will consist of a neurological exam, checking your reflexes, muscle strength, and sensation changes to check the integrity of the nervous system at various levels in your spine. Range of motion testing will also be completed. Orthopedic tests are performed to determine if your injury is a result of issues from a disc, ligaments, or muscles. When appropriate, your doctor may determine that x-rays are needed.
X-rays
Your doctor may determine that it is appropriate to take x-rays of your injury to help rule out any fractures or more severe issues that can’t be determined through an exam or your medical history. Many conditions that chiropractors treat have similar presentation as other conditions and x-rays can help make the confirmation of one or the other so that the proper treatment is given.
Consultation
After a history, exam and/or x-rays are done, your doctor will then use all of the obtained information to create a custom care plan to address your unique needs and goals. When appropriate, they will recommend exercises, stretches, or modifications to your daily activities to help prevent your symptoms from returning. In some cases, we refer you to other medical providers.
